Lewis[1]Laurie Lewis, RN, MSN, MHA, NEA-BC, Corporate Chief Clinical Officer at AcuityHealthcare, recently earned the certification of Nurse Executive, Advanced – Board Certified (NEA-BC) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). As Corporate Chief Clinical Officer, Laurie oversees all clinical operations in AcuityHealthcare long-term acute-care (LTAC) hospitals located across the nation.

The mission of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association (ANA), is to promote excellence in nursing and health care globally through credentialing programs. ANCC’s internationally renowned credentialing programs certify and recognize individual nurses in specialty practice areas and contributes to better patient outcomes.

In addition to being a licensed RN and having a master’s degree in nursing, candidates for this certification are required to hold an administrative position at the nurse executive level, or a faculty position teaching graduate students executive-level nursing administration full-time for at least 24 months in the last five years.

Laurie has a Master’s degree in Nursing Administration and a Master’s degree in Health Care Administration. Prior to joining AcuityHealthcare in 2009, her career included serving as Texas Regional CNO for HealthSouth and Chief Clinical Officer at Kindred Healthcare

“I am really excited about achieving the Nurse Executive Advance Certification through ANCC,” said Laurie. “It wasn’t an easy process – it took about eight months overall. However, it was worth the effort and I would encourage all clinicians to obtain a certification in their specialty. Obtaining a certification signifies a level of commitment to your professional development,” she added.

Ed Cooper, CEO of AcuityHealthcare, expressed his pride in Laurie’s notable accomplishment. “The entire AcuityHealthcare team applauds Laurie’s hard work and dedication in earning this certification. At Acuity, we strongly support education and we are continually looking for ways to support our clinicians to improve their knowledge and skill set. We believe that’s the best way to realize our ultimate goals of improved patient care experiences and patient outcomes.”

AcuityHealthcare is a privately owned long-term acute-care (LTAC) hospital company, founded in 2001. We care for critically ill, medically complex patients for a longer period of time than traditional hospitals. Our eight facilities are state-of-the-art, full-service hospitals, fulfilling an important role in the continuum of care.
